Create Simple Flap Booklets

When studying seasons, weather, holidays, animals, places, or any other informational topics, primary students can utilize a simple flap booklet to organize their writing and work on simple sentences.

Fold a piece of blank paper vertically. Then cut 3-5 slits up the crease on one side. This creates the flaps. Identify the top flaps for fact sentences about Item A (i.e. ducks) and the bottom for fact sentences about Item B (i.e. chickens). See image.

NOTE: This not only works great for compare-contrast, but try it also with question-answer format (questions on the top flaps; answers on the bottom). Remember, the younger the writer, the bigger the flap needs to be to accommodate their large handwriting. This may need to be executed on 11x17 paper.
